Planning a church celebration doesn't have to be difficult. Reunion Capital USA will assist you in planning a special day to celebrate your congregation-- from activities and themes to finding a perfect location.

Prince George’s County has many great locations and attractions where your church group, large or small, can celebrate. One popular idea is a day of thrills and excitement at Six Flags America, with a rented pavilion for activities and dining. For a more relaxed occasion, plan a day of food and fun at one of the beautiful local State Parks. Have games and activities to keep the kids busy, such as seasonally themed crafts or a game of soccer or softball, and enjoy the amenities of the park. You can cater the event, or have proud members show off their best cooking with a potluck dinner. To add extra excitement, have a cooking contest, which allows people to showcase their best dishes and share favorite recipes. Then, compile all the recipes into a church fundraiser recipe book later in the year.

Any time can be the perfect time to celebrate your church and enjoy the company of the people who make it so special. Start planning a celebration event for your church community today, and it is sure to become a favorite annual event!

Ideas of special events for your church include:

    • Holiday craft fair
    • Outdoor summer kick-off festival
    • Spring fling tea complete with flower baskets and bonnets
    • Fall harvest or pumpkin festival
    • Beach party cook-out

Church Festivals

Festivals are an exciting way to celebrate your fellowship, spend time with friends and mingle with the community. Start off by deciding the basics: date, time, and location. Then, begin promoting the idea at your church through announcements, newsletters and group meetings to get your church community involved months before the event. Gather a supportive planning committee, and begin to plan the elements of the festival! As planning progresses, create more subcommittees for members to get involved in that are important elements for the festival's success; such as advertising, logistics, volunteering at the event, and clean up.

Plan what activities and events you want to be included in the festival. Consider what makes your church unique, and find ways to celebrate individual’s talents. Great elements include plenty of food available for purchase, activities for children, crafts and local goods for sale, a silent auction, raffles for donated items or services, and a church band or a children’s choir providing music and entertainment. Celebrate local food by selling local produce, featuring regional dishes and having community restaurants as vendors.

Hosting a Festival is a great way to raise awareness in the community. Make sure to have a table with information about your church available, and a member ready to talk to any interested new members. Also, provide sign-up sheets for upcoming events, groups to join, and special services happening soon to encourage member involvement in the church.

Some festivals have themes, which can add to the fun. These can celebrate your church’s heritage, such as hosting a Greek or Irish themed festival. They can also be based around the season, such as a Harvest Festival in the fall, or a Strawberry Festival in the summer. Celebrating a religious occasion in a unique way can also be festive, such as the theme idea Christmas in July.

Festivals are an exciting church activity that people of all ages can enjoy. Reunion Capital USA is here to assist you in the planning process, and to ensure a successful experience.

We are here to help you plan the perfect youth group activity for your church. With a large variety of attractions and a great location, regardless of the group's size, age, or even budget, there is something perfect for each youth group to enjoy in Prince George’s County.

Listed below are some suggestions for a unique and fun youth group activity:

Connecting with young adults and keeping them actively involved in youth organizations and events can be a challenge in today’s fast-paced and busy world. Young adults are constantly on the go, and sometimes, religious groups may take the back seat to other interests and activities. Since youth groups are such a valuable way for young adults to develop their spirituality, it is important to stay connected to youth in order to determine how to best suit their interests so they will be involved, and get the most out of religious programs.

Rejuvenate Magazine focused on the topic of Youth Outreach in their June 2009 edition, and provided helpful insight on how to reach today’s youth. They focused on what it takes for a religious organization to excite and connect with young adults and how to establish a successful youth program or meaningful special event.

Helpful tips to remember when planning a teen youth group activity:

    • You can appeal to youth with promotion through social media sites, email, and even motivational or interactive texts, since using technology as communication tools are critical elements of their daily lives.
    • Get youth leaders to be actively involved in the planning of the youth group or event, they will know what youth will best respond to.
    • Teens have a generally short attention span and a high entertainment value based on the amount of technology they are exposed to daily, so they respond well to music, action-oriented events, and using multimedia in presentations.
    • It is important to focus on building a connection and relationships with the kids so they want to attend and feel comfortable while there, not just focus on developing the program content.
    • Youth today are very event driven, so fun special events and day trips are particularly appealing.
    • Teens like being able to interact. Youth group pages on social media sites, such as Facebook are a great way for them to stay connected with the group’s upcoming events, provide ideas and feedback, and establish friendships with one another and youth group leaders.
    • Consider allowing youth to both submit and then vote ideas of events or topics to be covered in youth groups. A winning vote will ensure an overall group interest in the activity or topic, and will encourage people to attend.

Overall, try to pick topics and activities that relate to the daily lives of youth today, issues important to their generation, and incorporate feedback and technology as much as possible in order to achieve a dynamic, positive, and excited youth group environment for young people to have fun and develop their faith.

Prince George’s County has a wide variety of exciting locations, day trips and events for youth groups to enjoy! Consider taking your group on a thrilling day trip to Six Flags, or take the group outside and enjoy the great outdoors at one of the beautiful State Parks or hiking trails!
